The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the nation's largest individual membership association of state legislators, is promoting a way for states to protect Americans' medical care freedom. At least 22 states have or will introduce legislation modeled after ALEC's Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act, including Missouri.
MO State Sen. Jane Cunningham and MO State Rep. Tim Jones are have pre-filed this Act in Missouri and discussed its implications during a press conference in Chesterfield, MO on Dec. 9.
Legislators in nine states (AK, GA, KS, LA, MO, MT, MS, NH, and UT) have publicly announced their intention to file legislation to protect their citizens from any health care mandates. Eleven others states have already filed or pre-filed similar legislation (AZ, FL, IN, MN, ND, NM, MI, OH, PA, WV, WY). Arizona's measure, which passed the legislature in June, will be put before voters on the 2010 ballot.
MO Sen. Jim Lembke promises that the it will be a top priority in Missouri's 2010 legislative session to pass this resolution.
