We are repeatedly reminded that Barack Obama, for a time, taught constitutional law, but it's hard to believe he is knowledgeable abut the Constitution. He doesn't seem to understand that the U.S. Constitution established a government based on federalism, that means, our national government is limited by the powers retained by the individual states.
President Obama has just signed an Executive Order entitled Establishing a Council of Governors. According to the press release, this is to protect us against all types of hazards. This Council will review such matters as the National Guard of the various States, homeland defense, civil defense, and synchronization and integration of state and federal military activities. According to the press release, Obama will personally appoint ten state Governors to serve two-year terms to be in charge of the Council of Governors. The Council will also include some highly placed federal officials, and the Executive Director for the Council of Governor will be designated by the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
It sounds to me like Obama isn't content with exercising the duties of the U.S. President, he also wants to control the states. I don't believe any U.S. President has ever tried to take over supervision of the Governors on so many aspects of our lives. We should watch the activities of this Council of Governors very carefully because it clearly represents an expansion of the federal government and its control over the states. This involves spreading troops around the United States, and deciding who has tactical command over the reserves and the National Guard in the event of emergencies, terrorist attacks, or natural disasters.
Everything Obama does involves grasping for more power or spending more taxpayers' money. Freedom lovers will have to monitor his actions very closely.
