Have you ever been on an aircraft carrier? I have, and it's an awesome experience. The enormous size of it, and its capability for fighter jets to take off and land on its deck, just blow you away. America's invincible carrier fleet is a tremendous sign of our naval superiority, which is essential to U.S. security.
Communist China is working and planning to terminate U.S. dominance of the high seas. China is developing what our experts call a "game-changing weapon" -- an unprecedented carrier-killing missile called the Dong Feng 21D, that could be launched from land with sufficient accuracy to penetrate the defenses of our most advanced aircraft carriers at a distance of 900 miles. Our people say the final testing of this extraordinary missile could come as soon as the end of this year. This missile, which has already been displayed in a Chinese military parade, could revolutionize China's role in the Pacific, change the balance of power in the Pacific, and seriously weaken our ability to intervene in any potential conflict over Taiwan or North Korea. It could also deny U.S. ships access to international waters in the Pacific.
This missile, Dong Feng 21D, is not a nuclear missile, so it is not raising the specter of nuclear war. However, its ability to hit a powerfully defended moving target, like a U.S. aircraft carrier, with pin-point precision, is unique and frightening. It's time Americans realize that Communist China is not just a good-fellow trading partner that makes cheap articles we buy in Walmart. China is a Communist country, run like a dictatorship with the Communist Party in totalitarian control, and able to spend unlimited amounts of U.S. cash to build its military weapons. China is determined to become the world's number-one superpower, and they are doing it on our money.
