Serious Questions For Texas House Members.

If You Cannot Answer These Questions...

By Shirley Spellerberg

  1. How would delegates from Texas be selected or elected to a Con Con?
  2. How would delegates from other states be selected or elected to a Con Con?
  3. How many delegates do you think Texas should send to a Con Con?
  4. What would happen if the Con Con decided to write its own rules so that 2/3 of the states need not be present to get amendments passed?
  5. What authority will be responsible for determining the number of delegates from each state?
  6. Would Delegates be selected based on Population, number of Registered Voters, or along Party lines?
  7. What authority would be responsible for selecting the Venue for the Convention?
  8. What authority would be responsible for electing the Leaders of the convention?
  9. How would the Speaker of the Convention be selected or elected?
  10. What authority would be responsible for organizing the convention, such as committee selection, committee chairs and members, etc.?
  11. What authority will establish the Rules of the Convention, including the number of votes required to pass a Constitutional Amendment?
  12. Where would the Convention be held?
  13. Who will fund this Convention?

The late Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Warren Burger, answered these questions about limiting a Constitutional Convention: “There is no effective way to limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention. After a convention is convened, it will be too late to stop the Convention if we don’t like the agenda.”

It would be foolish to place our wonderful God-given liberties, protected by our constitution, at risk for any reason however well-intended. The unintended consequences could mean the death of the greatest document, next to the Holy Bible, ever written.

You have sworn to protect and defend it—not tamper with it under Article V in this volatile political climate. All proposed amendments should go through the traditional process of passage by congress and ratification by three-fourths of the states.

Stop and think what you are being asked to do and then don’t do it!

Constitutional Convention—“We oppose any constitutional convention to re-write the United States Constitution. We demand the Legislature rescind the 1977 call for such a convention. We call upon other states to rescind their votes for such a convention.”

The Anti-Family Goals of the Feminists

Harvard Professor Harvey Mansfield courageously made it clear in his book called Manliness that the feminist movement is anti-men, anti-masculine, anti-marriage, anti-motherhood, and anti-morality. The feminists were the driving force in inflicting our country with unilateral divorce, which means that, after a man and woman stand up and swear before witnesses to be faithful till death do us part, one party can break the contract without the consent of the other as easy as checking a box on a printed form. The spouse who wants out of the marriage contract doesn't have to allege fault by the other spouse, and doesn't even have to give a reason.

Senators to Debate Patent Bill, 1-28-11

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Monday will begin debating a bill that critics say will undermine American strength abroad, plunder the United States economy and exceed the government’s constitutional

The subject: patent reform.

Rarely has the Patent and Trademark Office elicited such passions. But included in the bill is a long-debated feature that would change the federal patent system to a “first to file” protocol of determining patent priority — one used by nearly all of the rest of the world — from its current “first to invent” system.

“This bill would be death to innovation in America,” said Phyllis Schlafly, the conservative writer and activist who has rallied opposition to the bill among conservative groups like the Gun Owners of America and the Christian Coalition.

No, no Con-Con

By Henry Lamb

To listen click here

The U.S. Constitution provides two ways to offer amendments to the Constitution: by resolution of the Congress; and by a Constitutional Convention requested by two-thirds of the states. In either case, the proposed amendment(s) must be ratified by three-fourths of the states.

There is a very good reason why all 27 amendments to the Constitution were offered by Congressional resolution: a Constitutional Convention is an invitation to disaster.

Proponents of a Constitutional Convention claim that opponents of a Con-Con use "...half-truths, myths and outright falsehoods..." to instill fear of the process. They do not, however, provide any examples of the alleged "half-truths, myths, and outright falsehoods."

Book Review: ‘The Flipside of Feminism’

In The Flipside of Feminism, Suzanne Venker and Phyllis Schlafly document how for the last half century or so America’s women have been sold a bill of goods by the Liberal-Progressives.

The Lib-Progs devised and marketed — and through a compliant media industry continue to market — the demonstrably false idea that women can have it all, that is, raise healthy, well-adjusted children and enjoy a full-time career outside the home at the same time.

Don’t Ask For What You Don’t Want For You Surely May Get It!!

That is exactly what happened in the Texas Senate
After visiting the offices of every Texas Senator, providing them with factual information as to the risks to our God-given constitutional liberty, all of the Senators with the exception of three Republicans and four Democrats, chose to ignore the warning from the late Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger, who said, “There is no effective way to limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention. After a Convention is convened, it will be too late to stop the Convention if we don’t like the agenda.”

None of the Senators appeared to really want a ConCon but just want to ‘scare’ Congress into passing a Balanced Budget Amendment. Asking for a ConCon for any reason might surely force Congress to call one whether or not you want it!

More Reaction to Senate Patent Reform Legislation

After six years of committee debate, all indications are that the Senate will finally take up patent reform legislation by mid-March (see "Patent Reform Legislation Moves to Senate Floor"). Earlier this month, we reported on the reaction of several groups to the passage of the Senate bill (S. 23) out of committee (see "Reaction to Senate Patent Reform Bill (S. 23)"). Since then, other groups have joined the discussion.

The Core of the Feminist Agenda

It's time that somebody explained what a destructive force feminism has been in American society, and I believe that my new book being published next month does exactly that. The book explains the true nature of feminism, which I have been fighting ever since the 1970s, and the book brings new insights about current feminism from my co-author Suzanne Venker who belongs to a younger generation. Anyone who reads our book, called The Flipside of Feminism, will never want to be called a feminist. We make clear that feminism is a cover for the demands of the female left, who are anti-men, who want to make fathers irrelevant, and who preach the false notions that American women are oppressed by the patriarchy and victims of centuries of discriminatory treatment.

Beware Constitutional Convention!

Alabama Passes Paycheck Protection

Unions of government employees, particularly the teachers unions, have for many years been able to get state governments to deduct money out of the payroll checks of state employees and transfer it directly into the unions' political funds, where the money is used to support their favorite candidates, which, surprise surprise, are usually 90% Democratic Party candidates. This is despite the fact that a high percentage of members of the teachers union favor Republicans and resent having part of their union dues sent to support liberal candidates. In Alabama, for example, the teachers union spent more than $8 and a half million dollars in the 2010 elections, mostly to support Democrats.

What's Wrong With Bullying Regulations?

The U.S. Department of Education recently issued a letter to 15,000 public schools and 5,000 colleges telling them it is their responsibility to protect students from bullying and harassment. The letter said it was based on the Title IX law, which was passed in the 1970s in order to assure that women could not be denied access to educational programs funded with federal dollars. The Obama Administration is trying to expand Title IX by saying it includes a ban on so-called "gender stereotyping." The letter admitted that this "is certainly the first time the Education Department has made it clear that the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community is protected by Title IX if they are bullied or harassed for not conforming to stereotypical gender roles."

'Feminists Love Divorce!'

"If there's one thing feminists love, it's divorce - they consider it liberating." That's just one of the claims Phyllis Schlafly and her co-author Suzanne Venker make in their new book, The Flipside of Feminism: What Conservative Women Know - And Men Can't Say, to be released this March. Schlafly--political activist, bestselling author, syndicated columnist, radio personality--is often called the grande dame of the conservative movement (she is perhaps best known for her successful campaign to stop passage of the Equal Rights Amendment and founding of the national volunteer organization known as the Eagle Forum). Venker, a.k.a. "No Bull Mom," is author of 7 Myths of Working Mothers and a regular contributor to NewsReal.

Nearly 1 in 4 Fail Military Exam

Almost a quarter of young people who tried to join the military during the last five years did not pass the entrance exam, which is called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude test. The is even more disturbing because the exam is only given to people who meet other requirements. The Pentagon reports that three-fourths of 17- to 24-year olds don't even qualify to take the exam because they have a criminal record, didn't graduate from high school, or are physically unfit. About one-fourth are obese, making them medically ineligible. Furthermore, a passing score isn't even particularly difficult. Applicants only need to score 31 out of 99 on the first portion of a three-hour test. Many of the test questions are very basic, such as, "If 2 plus x equals 4, what is the value of x?" The study found disparities between whites and minorities similar to those on other standardized tests. The average score for whites is 55, as compared to 44 for Hispanics and 38 for blacks.

Our Opinion: A potentially dangerous convention

A proposal by a state lawmaker to call a constitutional convention allowing states to repeal federal laws has drawn mixed reactions – including from us.

State Rep. Jay Barnes, R-Jefferson City, has advanced a resolution urging Congress to call a constitutional convention. The aim of the convention would be to draft a constitutional amendment permitting states to repeal federal laws.

We share Barnes’ concern that our federal government increasingly has deviated from its own concept of federalism.

Tell Your Children About George Washington

Today is not Presidents Day; it is the legal holiday designated by federal law as Washington's Birthday. There used to be a picture of George Washington hanging in every public school classroom. Somehow, those pictures were removed. So, it's up to us to remind ourselves and our children why we honor the American who is known as First in War, First in Peace, and First in the Hearts of His Countrymen.

State Republican Senators About To Make A Big Mistake! Senate Resolutions Calling for a ConCon Must be Blocked!

By Shirley Spellerberg

As I watched the Senate State Affairs Committee hearing on SJR10 and SJR1, I could not believe the lack of understanding as to the risks to our original constitution that is posed by a Constitutional Convention. I detected reservations on the part of several committee members, so I am wondering if passing it out of committee was in order to please the Governor and Lt.Governor?Instead of passing another unnecessary ConCon resolution, the Senate and House should be rescinding the two ConCon resolutions passed in the 70’s that are still valid. Fifteen states have rescinded their previous resolutions and that is what Texas should be doing!

While the State Affairs Committee Chair, Senator Robert Duncan, pointed out that he sees only two ways to balance the federal budget—1) Raise taxes or 2) Congress could push the costs of spending legislation down to the states to pay for. Of course a third way to ‘balance’ the budget he did not mention would be to print more fiat money thereby contributing to the further devaluation of the dollar. As we all know, the states cannot print money.

California Votes NO on Legalizing Drugs

A couple of years ago, it had become very trendy among liberals to say that illegal drugs should be legalized for general use by the American people. A Washington Post editorial said, "It's Time to Legalize Drugs." California became the first of 14 states to legalize the use of marijuana with a physician's recommendation. California's legalization of medical marijuana produced a mix of very different local rules. In some areas of California, medical marijuana dispensaries are as common as convenience stores, while in other parts of the state it's hard to find a source to fill a physician's prescription for medical marijuana. The number of marijuana shops in Los Angeles climbed to 400, at which time the city government limited the allowed number of shops to 70. These shops operate under such names as "Kind for Cures," with a store window that features a big green cross and signs that say "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke" and "Open 7 Days."

G.E.'s Change of Heart About China

A few years ago, General Electric caved into the Chinese government's demand that G.E. build a large wind turbine factory in China. Since G.E. owns a crucial patent for wind turbines, this demand was based on the Chinese anti-free trade policy called indigenous innovation (which is "a blueprint for technology theft"). China then developed its own wind turbine manufacturers, and is now ordering purchasers to buy from those Chinese firms instead of from G.E. That's the reality in what free traders thought was the world's fast-growing market for U.S. goods.

A constitutional convention would be political folly

By Shirley Spellerberg

Special to the Star-Telegram

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is misguidedly calling for a constitutional convention for the purpose of crafting a federal balanced budget amendment.

The BBA is only one of numerous amendments being suggested as a result of public frustration with the lack of action on the part of our elected officials to act responsibly in fiscal matters.

Resolutions calling for a constitutional convention (ConCon) have been filed by Republicans in both the Texas House and Senate. They will be heard in the Senate State Affairs Committee and should be killed in committee.

The names of members of the Senate State Affairs Committee may be found online at www.capitol.state.tx.us/Committees/Membership.aspx. If you are concerned about the risks involved in a constitutional convention, please call committee members and Dewhurst's comment line at 512-463-5342 to urge defeat of the Senate Joint Resolutions sponsored by Sens. Florence Shapiro, Steve Ogden and Jeff Wentworth (all Republicans) and any other ConCon resolution that may be forthcoming.

Reevaluating Free Trade with China

The voters who elected the new Congress expect it to cast off unconsitutional and discredited policies such as big deficit spending and judicial grabbing of legislative prerogatives. We also hope Congress will shake itself loose from the dishonest, anti-American trade policies of other countries, especially Communist China.

Phyllis Schlafly Says Palin Not a Feminist

In May of last year, Sarah Palin told an audience of more than 500 pro-life women at a Susan B. Anthony breakfast that they represented an "emerging, conservative, feminist identity" with a growing ability to influence policy.

But according to the mother of the conservative women's movement, Phyllis Schlafly, Palin and her kind are not and never could be feminists.

“Palin is not a feminist because she doesn’t adopt the victimology notion of the feminists,” Schlafly told The Daily Caller. “Jessica Valenti defined feminism in the Washington Post a few weeks ago as people who believe the patriarchy oppresses women and women can never succeed.”

Cal picks girls lacrosse over boys baseball

California had to kill boys lacrosse in order to keep girls lacrosse and comply with Title IX:
UC Berkeley announced that men's rugby, women's gymnastics and women's lacrosse would remain as varsity programs, less than five months after Cal announced the teams would have to be cut or demoted to varsity club status because of the UC system's financial crisis.

But baseball and men's gymnastics will not be retained, officials said. As of July 1, Cal will be the only NCAA Division I school in the state without a baseball team. It will be without a national power in men's gymnastics, in which it has won four NCAA team titles.

The decision on which teams to keep and which to drop was based on a mix of financial and gender-equity issues. ... The resurrection of women's lacrosse and women's gymnastics keeps the school in compliance with Title IX, a federal law that has played a key role in providing equal opportunity for women in college sports.
Girls lacrosse? Except for a few eastern colleges, it is hard to find any girls who even know what lacrosse is.

Brave Professor Led Effort to Thwart Indoctrination of University of Delaware Students

Prof. Blits, of the University of Delaware, led the movement to stop the University’s attempts to introduce a program that would have defined students racially and sexually, belittled American values, and probed students’ private beliefs. The program intended to require students to answer intimate questions about their sexual behaviors and values and to pressure them to conform to politically correct doctrines and behaviors, from their first steps onto the university campus. Dr. Blits stopped this group-think plan in its tracks.

Marriage Intervention

by Dave Usher & Cynthia Davis

Every day we read articles bemoaning the lack of marriage and complaining about marriage-destructive Progressive federal law. Now is the time to move beyond armchair hand-wringing about the demise of marriage and destructive laws. We must take a firm lead with better policy that will accurately target social problems while restoring marriage for the benefit all Americans.

One way we can win the war on marriage is by working toward workable legislative answers that make more sense than the anti-family ideas being promoted by organized progressives around the Beltway and in state capitols across America.

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is an example of government erroneously treating a consequence rather than impacting the source of the problem. Domestic violence is usually a symptom of a much larger problem brought on by drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the emotional nature of this issue, we missed the root cause of the problem.

House panel rejects call for constitutional convention

A House committee has rejected a bid by Rep. Brad Daw to convince the Legislature to call for a national convention to add a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Under Article V of the Constitution, a majority of the states can initiate such a convention. The amendment that Daw, R-Orem, supports would make it impossible for Congress to raise the U.S. debt limit.
The limit currently stands at $14.3 trillion and Congress is expected to vote soon on whether to raise it again.
But various conservative groups, including the Eagle Forum, the John Birch Society, the 9/12 Project and others argued that calling a constitutional convention would open a Pandora’s Box and any amendment could be on the table.
HJR14 failed on a 5-5 vote, with conservative Republicans joining the panel’s Democrats. Rep. Dave Clark, R-Santa Clara, who was proposing a constitutional convention for an amendment that would allow states to repeal federal laws, asked the committee to postpone voting on his bill after seeing the fate of Daw’s proposal.

Fourteen crosses were placed alongside state highways in Utah. They were put there to honor state troopers who died in the line of duty. Each cross bears a name, photograph, badge number, Utah Highway Patrol symbol, and a plaque with biographical information on it. The crosses were designed by former police officers, who said they chose the cross as a memorial because "only a white cross could effectively convey the simultaneous messages of death, honor, remembrance, gratitude, sacrifice and safety. A cross is widely recognized as a memorial for a person's death, especially respect for those who have given their lives to insure the safety and protection of others. Moreover, a cross near the highway conveys the unmistakable message that a Utah Highway Patrolman died near this spot while serving the people of Utah."

Will Fat Government Make Kids Skinny?

The President has signed Michelle Obama's Child Nutrition Bill. This law is supposed to provide children with more nutritious school meals. Many people believe that, instead, it will lead to greater reliance on the badly managed school food programs while simultaneously weakening good parenting. Parents should be the key to solving the problem of childhood obesity. This new law is over 200 pages, and it is typical Washington meddling, full of new regulations. It expands government control over local school districts, imposes fines for noncompliance, and provides taxpayer funds for a "food service management institute."

The Flipside of Feminism: What Conservative Women Know -- and Men Can't Say

Phyllis Schlafly, founder and president of Eagle Forum and a national leader of the conservative movement since the early 1960s, says she's discovered women, because of the feminist movement, have more freedom, education and power, but less happiness.

Schlafly, who is scheduled to address the Conservative Political Action Conference Feb. 11 as master of ceremonies for the Ronald Reagan Banquet, is expected to take the opportunity to blast the radical feminist movement for the harm done to women, as well as to men and children, over the past four decades.

Schlafly, along with her niece, Suzanne Venker, documented the failings of feminism and offered some practical solutions for a better understanding of womanhood in a forthcoming book, "The Flipside of Feminism," which is scheduled for release by WND Books on March 15.

ACLU Continues to Target Christmas

The American Civil Liberties Union (known as the ACLU) continues to carry on its war against Christmas. The Tennessee branch of the ACLU sent a warning letter to 137 school superintendents in Tennessee warning them about having school Christmas celebrations. The letter suggested that celebrating Christmas while excluding winter holidays such as Kwanza, Bodhi Day, and Hanukkah amounted to an unconstitutional endorsement of religion by the school. The ACLU Executive Director's letter said, "We believe . . . that holiday celebrations that focus primarily on one religious holiday can result in indoctrination as well as a sense within students who do not share that religion of being outsiders to the school." The letter suggested that it was backed up by three U.S. Supreme Court decisions, but actually none of those decisions prohibited public celebrations of Christmas.

What's Wrong With Those New Light Bulbs?

Today I'm telling you more about a new law called the Energy Independence and Security Act, which is designed to banthe electric light bulbs we've always been using, and instead force us to buy a new kind of light bulb called a CFL that is made in China. They don't give as much light as the bulbs we have been using, but they are supposed to be more environmentally proper. I think that is doubtful. CFLs are so toxic because of the mercury in the glass tubing that the cleanup procedure spelled out by the Environmental Protection Agency is downright scary. The EPA warns that if we break a Chinese CFL, we must take the pieces to a recycling center and not launder any "clothing or bedding [that the bulb touches] because mercury fragments in the clothing may contaminate the [washing] machine and/or pollute sewage." CFLs must be pretty dangerous if they will pollute the sewage.

Goodbye to Edison's Greatest Invention

A new law called the Energy Independence and Security Act is designed to force all Americans to stop using the light bulbs we've always known, which were invented by Thomas Edison. This law will impose environmental "standards" that will eliminate 276 versions of incandescent light bulbs by the year 2012. The drop-dead date for our favorite 100-watt light bulb is only one year away. Then, we will be ordered to buy more expensive but allegedly more energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps (called CFLs) made in China that are supposed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and force us to do our duty to save the planet.

Restoring Federalism in Education

There's a new tide in America. A wave favoring a return to federalism, built upon reasonable fears that the federal government has gotten to big; that Washington had overstepped its bounds.

Many parents and taxpayers feel the same way about education today. They understand that those people closest to the student are best equipped to meet their education needs. Americans understand that some distant, unelected bureaucrat in Washington is neither able nor empowered by the Constitution to dictate state education policy. By using federalism as a guiding principle in education – allowing states to set standards and determine how education dollars are spent – children’s needs will best be served, and educational opportunity will flourish.
