Misquoting Romney

Mitt Romney got attention for these two quotes:

“I like to being able to fire people who provide services to me.”
“I’m in this race because I care about Americans. I’m not concerned about the very poor — we have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it.”

Romney is being widely misquoted as saying that he likes to fire people and that he does not care about the poor.

The differences are large. I don't like to fire people, but I do like being able to fire people who fail to provide services. And yes, there are people that I care about, but about whom I am not concerned.
