God Becomes an Issue in Political Platforms

Did you see the vote on "God" at the Democratic National Convention? Everyone should watch it -- it is so very revealing about the high stakes in the upcoming national election. When the Democratic Party Platform came to the Convention floor for approval, it omitted the name of God (which had been in previous Democratic Party Platforms).

A motion was made to put God back into the Democratic Platform, a motion which under Party rules required a 2/3rds majority to pass. The chair called for a voice vote, and the Ayes and Nays sounded about equal. The chairman looked completely baffled and called for a second vote. Again the Ayes and Nays sounded about equal. Still looking like he didn't know what to do, the chairman called for a third vote. Some thought the voice vote again sounded equally divided, and some commentators said they didn't think the Ayes had even a simple majority, certainly not a 2/3rds majority. The chairman then read his pre-scripted ruling from the teleprompter. He said the motion received a 2/3rds affirmative vote and was adopted. He rapidly moved on to other Convention business. It's important for all Americans to know that at least half of the Democratic National Convention voted to ban "God" or "God-given" from the Party Platform. It's important to know what we are up against in the upcoming November 6 election.

Remember that Barack Obama, when he was campaigning for President, said that he plans to "fundamentally transform the United States"? We now know that he wants to limit the First Amendment to "freedom of worship," which means inside a church after you close the door, but no longer permit the "free exercise" of religion as the First Amendment has clearly meant for over two centuries. We can't let him get away with this attack on religious freedom! Listen to the radio commentary here:
