Eve Ensler is getting a lot of publicity for her Feb. 14 One Billion Rising V-day event. I am not sure whether V stands for Valentine, vagina, or violence.
She is most famous for her 1996 award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues. That play celebrates the intoxication and lesbian rape of a 13-year-old girl. The play called it "a good rape", because it rescued her from needing men for sexual satisfaction.
This seems to be an effort to use the plight of women in Third World countries as an excuse to pass the Violence Against Women Act. But American women do not need an Ensler-inspired rescue. VAWA needs to be revised.
