Where Are the Fruits of Victory?

Last November when the entire Congress was up for grabs, Republicans won a tremendous victory. President Obama boasted that, while he was not on the ballot, all his policies and actions were on the ballot. The public responded with a big loud “No.” The new Congress took office on January 3, and we are still waiting for Congress to deliver the fruits of victory. Their model should be the great work of the Republican Congress elected in 1946, which passed tax cuts, income tax reform, and many good laws over President Harry Truman’s veto. But where are the fruits of our big victory on November 4? We hear little or no talk about Republican plans to repeal Obamacare, to close the borders against illegal aliens, to return to their parents the unaccompanied minors who were illegally bused across our southern border from Central American countries, to forbid the entry of people from Ebola-infested countries in West Africa, or to stop the federalization of public school curriculum by Common Core.

Instead the media are filled with demands that Congress legislate the Obama agenda. This includes repealing just one tiny provision of Obamacare: the tax on medical devices. Congress is toying with an outrageous plan to give Obama new power (called “fast track”) to let him go into a secret room with foreign governments and make a trade deal that will send tens of thousands of U.S. jobs overseas, to reduce taxes only on big corporations that are keeping their profits overseas, and to give the chamber of commerce what it most wants: guest worker visas for both low-wage and high-wage workers, which will increase unemployment among U.S. citizens.

Tell your Representative in Congress you want to see the fruits of our great victory in electing so many Republicans to Congress.
