Does the Senate Finally Get It On Judges?

Since the beginning of the year, the Republican-controlled Senate has voted to give lifetime appointments to three judges nominated by President Obama. These young, liberal appointees will likely spend decades advancing progressive goals from the bench.

The past two weeks, however, have shown some encouraging signs. First, Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) exercised his “blue slip” power, which lets senators block nominees from their home states, to stop a nominee with ties to the pro-amnesty movement. Then the Senate Judiciary Committee put off a vote on advancing two judicial nominees for Pennsylvania after the candidates gave evasive answers on abortion.

Conservatives should welcome these developments, but we can still demand more: the Senate has no reason to confirm another judicial nominee for the rest of President Obama’s term.
