Pro-Life Activism On Campus

Pro-life groups can be found on nearly 1,000 college campuses all over America. These groups reach out to fellow students by giving out educational material and hosting pro-life speakers. They provide sidewalk counseling in front of abortion clinics and come alongside pregnant women to support them as they seek abortion alternatives. These courageous students save the lives of many preborn children every year. However, these students are also frequently mistreated by students and faculty members on liberal college campuses.

At one school, a student trying to start a pro-life group was denied on the ground that the topic of abortion was too controversial. It eventually took a lawsuit before the school was willing to allow the formation of the group. The student starting the group said, “I never imagined I would have to sue my school to be able to exercise my free speech rights.” On the campus of American University, pro-life students hung a number of posters around campus debunking common myths and explaining why Planned Parenthood should be defunded. Two hours later, a liberal student group ripped the posters down and proceeded to taunt the pro-life students on social media with obscene gestures. One of the students commented, “Unfortunately, this is a growing phenomenon on college campuses where intolerance against conservative values has grown.”

The free speech rights of pro-life students are under attack on college campuses. Liberals pride themselves at being champions of “tolerance and diversity.” If that were really true, they would not be so intolerant towards opinions that are different from their own. Despite the opposition that pro-life students face, I encourage them to continue the fight.
