Representative Steve King of Iowa explained how Democrats frame the issue as a matter of feelings rather than facts. He said that “the Democrats and the Left are arguing that if you feel something . . . then that cannot be challenged.” He warned that through this creation of feelings driving policy over reason, the liberals are quickly tearing down the foundation of western civilization. Later, Representative Louie Gohmert of Texas explained the harm caused by the Left’s attempt to dismiss the transgender mental illness as normal. He read from an article by Paul McHugh, a former chair of the Johns Hopkins Hospital psychiatry department, explaining the dangers of gender reassignment surgery. McHugh points to studies that show individuals find absolutely no change for the better after gender reassignment surgery. Rather, they are worse off, finding no peace as long as their illness is treated as a normal, healthy state of mind.
Another speaker, Representative Duncan Hunter of California, touched on another hot-button gender issue — women in the draft. He told our Collegians that liberals are abandoning the military’s efficiency in favor of the feminists’ social justice agenda. He said that other countries that do draft women, like Israel, do not assign them to combat. Instead, they recognize that men and women are uniquely different. Israeli men do the physical labor of combat infantry, and women work in intelligence to assess threats before they happen. We were thrilled to have Duncan Hunter and others at the Eagle Forum Collegians Summit to teach our students the truth about the anti-family feminist agenda.
