Trump was right to include immigrants’ children as part of the problem. The Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen was a U.S. native, but a witness said he referred to Afghanistan as his home country. Mateen is certainly not the only U.S.-born child of Muslim immigrants to commit a mass killing. Examples include one of the San Bernardino killers, the Fort Hood shooter, the 2013 Boston Marathon bombers, and the 2015 Chattanooga shooter. Don’t overlook Muslims who enter the U.S. on the pretext of marriage, such as the Pakistani woman who helped her husband commit the San Bernardino massacre.
In an interview, Trump said “there’s no real assimilation” by Muslim immigrants, even in the “second and third generation.” The liberal website Politifact tried to refute his statement by citing a telephone survey of Muslims who said they wanted to become American, but the interviews were conducted in the languages like Arabic and Farsi – hardly evidence of assimilation. Until Muslims and their children learn to assimilate properly, they cannot be allowed to come here.
